In KS2 we aim to offer our pupils a rounded educational experience with a strong emphasis on academic excellence as well as opportunities to develop and grow in all areas. We follow the Primary Strategy for Literacy and Numeracy and the National Curriculum guidelines for the Foundation Subjects. The skills of independent learning and co-operation with others are given prime importance and pupils are encouraged to develop not only knowledge and skills but also attitudes and values which help them to become world citizens. Our pupils are happy, fulfilled and achieve well in all areas, both academic and non-academic.
The KS2 classes are each taught by a class teacher and classroom assistant. There are also LKS2 and UKS2 Co-ordinators for both academic and pastoral issues, working closely with the class teachers. The students study English, Maths, Science as well as I.C.T., Speaking and Listening, Humanities Art and DT. Mandarin/ Mother Tongue, Music and Physical Education are taught by specialist teachers. The curriculum is topic based and each individual subject is taught as an integral and relevant element of that topic, whenever possible.
We place significant emphasis on helping our pupils to become well-rounded individuals and this is achieved though our strong curricular, pastoral, sporting and musical programmes. We believe that pupils should be encouraged to be proactive in their attitude towards their learning and we aim to instill in all our pupils a love of intellectual discovery as well as an insatiable appetite for development, both on a personal level and as a part of the wider school community. Above all, we believe that learning should be fun.
